How much ink in cartridges?

How do I check how much ink I have in my cartridges? Thanks

I just right click on the printer icon

I use OpenOffice now instead of Word, and it comes up as a visual display before each printing session.

Right clicking does not show me what i want. I am sure in the past I have seen an indication of how full/empty the cartridges were, but cannot track it down. Anymore tips please?

I take no notice of the indicator which is supposed to show how much ink is left. I carry on using my printer way past the 'zero state'. You would be amazed how many more sheets you can print by carrying on.

The technique is different depending upon the make your printer. However, Bathsheba2's suggestion of right-clicking on the printer icon is the usual starting point. Then click 'Properties'. From then on the exact procedure will depend upon the make and model of your printer. With my Canon printer I click 'Maintenance' and then 'Start Status Monitor'. There should be something similar, under 'Properties', for your make of printer.
