Bomber Command Memorial

As one of Sir Arthur Harris's 'old lags', just to let you all know that after many thwarted attempts to have a memorial erected to the memory of 55,000 aircrew who died during WW2 , we appear to be on our way to getting one. In the final years of WW2 Bomber Command was being too successful, much to the embarrassment of Winston Churchill and co. Also, when the general public realised that BC attacked the enemy on their own soil, despite applauding their efforts at the time, they preferred to praise Fighter Command who defended our shores. They didn't realise that just driving back the enemy would not be sufficient to beat them. More BC aircrew were lost in one night over Nuremberg than the number of BofB pilots during the whole of the Battle of Britain. Make a Google Search of the Bomber Command Memorial Fund.

Thats really good news Hugh, the debt this country owes BC, is largely forgotton, so a memorial will go someway to redress that.

I've been on that site, and donated a small amount, and i wish you well.

I was also a "fan" of Fighter Command, until some years ago I took 30 of my colleagues to a Bomber County weekend in Lincolnshire and from that time on, I have been a keen supporter of Bomber Command. I will certainly Google your link.
