In previous years pensioners got 250 winter payment. now the Government is proposing that they get 25 per week if the average temperature across the whole week is below freezing. You woul only need one walmer day and the average would go above!

Beware a government bearing gifts. Old Greek proverb.

Is this how they are going to make up the shortfall from the VAT reduction!!!!!
beware of gordon brown, the pension thief is planning more raids is as I speak, on your pocket or purse, particularly if you are old and poor, if there was any justice in this world, spontaneous combustion would claim a popular victory over this pompous overbearing creep!!!
Unless you can provide a link I think you are getting the Winter Fuel Payment of 250 (400 for 80 year olds and over) mixed up wi the Cold Weather Payment which is 25 for seven consecutive days of actual or forecast temps of zero degrees or below.
That's what I wondered TLC :-)
TCL*.......sorry
In previous years the winter fuel payment for pensioners was 200. This year is the first year it has been 250. If there are two pensioners (married couple) both with earned pensions in their own right, the 250 is split 125 to each. I wonder what happens when one of the pair becomes 80 years of age, and the other is younger?
TCL is right.
In previous years the Winter Fuel Payment was 200. This year is the first time it has been increased to 250. However, if there are two pensioners (married couple), each with a government retirement pension earned in their own right, this is split 125 to each. I wonder what happens when one of the pair reaches 80 years of age, and the other is younger, as it's supposed to be 400 for pensioners of 80 and over. It would be interesting to know.
Where do they measure the temperature though? presumably it is somewhere local to the individual, if not then that leaves some people at a real disadvantage if they happen to live somewhere colder than average.
If the government allowed us to keep more of our own money we wouldn't need these handouts.
Too True - Modeller
Pensioners didn't get their expected 10 Christmas bonus. I wonder how many wer relying on it for a little extra food for Christmas. I have read hey will be getting 60 in January. Thats too late for Christmas. Couldn't the powers that be have managed the 10 in December and 50 in Jan.
