All this planning and interest started earlier this year or even before but it has now been taken over by a group of interested parties including the Bomber Command Association. The last I heard was that a site had been chosen on the edge of Regents Park, close to St John's Wood, Lords Cricket Ground where many of the aircrew cadets first joined the RAF, me included. Previously many of us were looking to the Midlands towards Lincolnshire for a suitable site, especially as it was known as Bomber County.
I have a Bomber Command Commemoration Medal which was not officially issued and is worn below the campaign medals. I know that for many years many people have tried to right the wrong of not issuing an official medal but all that takes us back to Winston Churchill and Clement Attlee in 1945, a disgraceful scenario enacted in the face of Sir Arthur Harris. If you know anymore about a medam I would be pleased to hear.
