This is the oil which results from the first cold pressing of the olives. It is natural and pure and has no other oils added to it.I always add a little fresh black pepper and a tiny pinch of sea salt. Then I dip some crusty wholemeal bread.um magic!!Also i have some before I go out drinking,it lines the stomach.
Anything virgin or extra virgin, but don't spend a fortune. The oil I get from *gasp* Lidl tastes just as good as the stuff from Carluccio's and it's 1/5 the price. Don't get anything really cheap though, and avoid pomace like the plague. The balsamic vinegar tip is a good idea as long as you like it, adds a little extra zing. Have fun. Oh and, by the way, those part baked bread products work really well with dipping oil, nothing like warm bread just out of the oven, and a lot less hassle than baking your own (unless you like to do that anyway)
roomby's got the right idea - find a suitably beautiful or retro-chic bottle with a cork and/or chrome-spout lid... scrub some fresh red chillis (maybe a few black or mixed peppercorns) and pop them in with a few bay leaves. then fill with some nice oil as described above. leave it for as long as you can bear, a few months...? Marvellous.
