Any ABers travelling along the west side of the M25 between Uxbridge and the M4 on New Year's Eve at about midnight.

Did anyone see a long line of orange lights over West Drayton east of the motorway? They were perfectly still but went very high in a diagonal line.

They were possibly on a wire but I could see nothing at all that it would have been attached to.

Any explanations?

I'm a bit lost with some of the answers whether this is a serious question .
However its probably planes "stacked" waiting to land at Heathrow.
They look still because you are moving in another direction
Just seen a report about orange lights spotted that took out a wind turbine in lincolnshire. Can't seem to post a proper link but try pasting this

From what I've been told about you Knobby you're the midget.
Of course if you are brave enough to say it to my face
(or in your vertically challenged state , my belly button) let me know and I'll arrange to meet you.

I will return to the Sports section,at least you said please.

Sky lanterns are more unique, longer lasting and safer than fireworks, our sky lanterns rise to heights of over 1,000 feet and travel for miles.

Sorry I can't do links but these are probably what you saw.
oops maybe I can do links!

It is a serious question and I defintely saw something. Don't think it was sky lanterns as they were all in a line.

It could have been a balloon with safety lights on a line bearing in mind it was near the airport.

Oh well, I suppose I'll never find out
Mighty is spot on. East of the M25 near Uxbridge / West Drayton is Heathrow Airport.

Aircraft coming into land over London would be descending on an ILS (Instrument Landing System) beam at an angle of 3 degrees, which might explain why you thought they were on a wire.
I see them regularly, and if they are coming towards you they don't appear to be moving.

They would each have their white landing lights shining forwards, but with the right weather conditions and pollution this could appear orange.

Definitely not planes either
Question Author
I pass the airport and they weren't going towards the runway
Question Author
Panic button I know exactly what you mean as I pass Heathrow most days. The line was coming up from the ground - field, industrial estate but not going towards the airport.

Beginning to wish I hadn't asked!
YEs Aytee so am I you train spottting GEEK

I only log on to ask things.

You clearly spend your life on here!
sorry Aytee, not really got an answer to your question but maybe caz has hit the nail on the head here.

Knobby, can i ask you why you felt the need to say this to mightywba?
"Get back to the sports section please midget "

Im assuming that everytime he posts, he is open to your abuse, something i noticed the other night too. calling names such as midget???? so silly!
Not realy any help, but I've also seen things in the sky that not wih any stretch of the imagination could of been man made. (appart from clouds, birds, the moon etc.,) Unfortunately the only thing is you're left with a feeling of frustration. - Oh, and the odd d**k head calling you mad or a bit strange.
