Chuck or Ethel around please?

Having difficulty sending replies to ems. Fresh ones send, but if I click onto reply, I've been getting a message at the top of the screen. I can't send anything until I type out the 8-character thing that I see. Unfortunately, I did that twice, but lost the emails completely. Has my computer been infected now, or is it a genuine thing? If so...where are the ems? I use hotmail through firefox, by the way.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Do the emails you are replying to have attachments originally sent. Delete any attachments on your reply.
Other cause could be an error with password....after 3 tries some accounts shut down. The 8character is to confirm your status.
Write your replies on Word, copy & paste rsvp, if the Ems fail all is not lost.

Thank you everybody.
No, the ems don't have any attachments terambulan. It just happens when I click onto "reply" rather than starting a completely new email back, but it doesn't seem to happen all the time.
I lost two replies yesterday though. because they wouldn't send until I'd typed out the 8 characters. I did so - and then lost what I'd written altogether! I'm hopeless with computers, but know that I haven't done anything out of the ordinary or clicked onto something I shouldn't have.
As for cookies being enabled or otherwise - I haven't a clue! How do I check....? Apologies in advance! : )
