'She'd like a pint of beer'.
'Who is she, the cat's mother?'.
'Sorry - Dusky would like a pint of beer'! (And if you wouldn't, I'll have yours!).

acw, I think that's a general thing - as in the story about a woman who finds a young girl crying outside the doctor's surgery, dries her eyes and takes her home for a cup of tea. Then she says "Right, who's going to be mother?" and the girl starts crying again...
Then there's "Necessity is the mother of invention."
"Mother knows best"
"Watch with Mother" (if that's not an infringement of copyright).
"Hail, Mary, mother of God" etc.
