When we turn off any of our taps there's a load bang in the pipes somewhere, also when having a shower the water will run hot for a while then go cooler for a few seconds (no other water is being drawn when this happens) Can anyone help please.

could be an air lock somewhere in the hot supply...........................do you have...boiler/cylinder/roof tank or a combi boiler?
Question Author
Combi
Same in my house as water from tank in attic travels thru house to ground floor bathrrom. No remedy, according to plumber, except to not use gf bath or move attic water tank.
Question Author
We don't have a tank in the attic, all the radiators have been bled and are fine.
well with the shower running hot and cold, if it did it on all the hot water taps too i would have said the hot water thermister is faulty but if its only the shower then it may be the mixer valve on the shower at fault, they can cause terrible problems with combis as can washing machines powered off them too.

as for your banging pipes i suspect it may be a loose jumper washer on the main stop ****, get a plumber in.

and terambulan, you need to try a different plumber !
