'A benefit do' if you misunderstood. As in someone arranged a band and sold tickets to the venue. They also done raffles and auctions. My son sold his liverpool ltd edition framed picture for �200.

The Irish do this in this town whenever someone might need help due to injury/illness. It stems from when they all use to be self employed and being out of work meant no money. It's a kind gesture from kind people who appreciate hard workers.
