Some pop up messages on PC for a day or 2, now says "unmountable boot disc" and cannot get on in any mode, safe or otherwise. What can I do?

If your on windows XP:

  • Boot from your XP CD and then press the letter R when you see the welcome screen.
  • Now you should get a dos command prompt.
  • Type "chkdsk /p" (without the quotes) and hit enter.
  • After that type "fixboot" (without quotes) and hit enter
  • Press Y at prompt
  • Type "exit" (without quotes) and hit enter.

Your computer should reboot into windows now.

If you don't have XP then try and get to a command prompt to run a chkdsk ("chkdsk /r"). Otherwise your hard drive might be knackered.
