The surface layer of your tongue has evolved to be scraped away by foods naturally. Any hard scratchy food will do. Do you like Toast?

I have an 'Oolit' tongue scraper, which I bought from Boots. It's designed to prevent gag reflex, which is handy, seeing as you have to scrape from as far back as you possibly can. (I just hope no one's eating their dinner whilst reading this!)
