we're getting our own chickens tomorrow, so am anticipating our first eggs over the next couple of weeks. Is it ok to write the date they were laid on them in felt pen or pencil, as i know the shells are porous? eventuallly we'll be getting an egg skelter, but i was thinkng about what to do in the meantime. Thanks
An egg stays fresh for 45 days, by the way. :) Obviously you use fresher eggs for poaching.
If you are still concerned you can buy food colouring pens - it would be perfectly safe to eat, but I don't know if you'd end up with strangely coloured eggs
