We all seem to assume, that when a baby is crying it is a manifestation of hunger......clearly not.
to get back on subject...i have no problem with women feeding in public its's perfectly natural, though i have to agree that some ladies feel it's thier duty to "show off "in public but hey,as a dad of three i've seen it all before and don't think it's a big deal.
When the baby cries it causes the nipple to start squirting out milk, which the mother has no control over. If the mother doesn't start feeding soon, her clothes will get soaking wet.
notafish....have you just made that up, please show me some medical evidence for that statement.
squad - that is true.. it's some hormonal thing.. used to happen to me with my first... (attractive!)
Sqad, did you REALLY not know that? Or are you joking? If not, Google it yourself.
sqad..it's true..remember silence of the lambs when dr.lecter asks the missing girls mother.."when you hear you're missing daughter's cries in the night,do your nipples still tingle?"
Squad, it's well known, and often happens when recent mothers hear other babies cry when they are out without their own babies! it's called the let down reflex if you want to look it up.
Chuck, gonzo, notafish, I bow down to greater knowledge.
you forgot hippyhoppy squad
I am surprised squad......you have always spoken so knowledgably on various health issues.......I would have expected you to know. Or to at least researched before you criticised a mother's NEED to feed her child. As for breastfeeding being a matter of....what was it? new mother syndrome.....me,me,me-itis????...isn't that an insult to the thousands of women who choose to breastfeed every year?? And not nearly enough are able to do so....partly I am sure due to narrow minded people who think it is something to laugh, snigger ,criticise or gawp at.
Chuck - you've impressed me with that 'let down reflex' knowledge.. I've had two kids and have forgotten everything unless it involves a nine year old football freak or a 14 year old daughter who I had to collect from police custody yesterday evening... selective memory...
I totally agree with pasta and Prudentia - although....I'm quite amazed at the way you express yourself Pru!!!??
pastafreak'.......all your points are well taken and I have admitted my lack of knowledge on breast feeding. As for Googling and research, my answers always come from experience and not from Googling, which anyonme can do.
Hipphoppy, I seem to have missed you out in my multiple apologies....I apologise.
if you saw a woman in the same place bottle feeding an infant would you have the same response. probably not. The breast is the same as a bottle to an infant a means of food. As men see breasts as a sexual object as opposed to feeding that is what causes the uncomfortable response to public breast feeding
well...now you have added to your knowledge,squad......
Hopefully we ALL learn something new every day,
Sqad, that was a really nice response, thank you.
