Validity of Passport

My son is going to Turkey this June and his passport runs out in September. Does anyone know if i need to get another passport or can he use the one he has.

A leaflet enclosed with our recently renewed passports states 'check that your passport is still valid for a minimum of six months at return date'

If your son is not going to need his passport between now and June why doesn't he just apply for a new one now? Any remaining months will be added to the new passport

Thanks for your answers. I have as you said decided to get another passport as the months remaining on his last passport are added on.
