Meeting with boss about job!!
4 Answers
Hi
Got into work yesterday and there's a letter on my desk from my boss.
The header says "review of the services my job offers.etc
At first it seemed ok then read at the bottom says this is a formal meeting and can take a union member or work collegue with me!!
That doesn't sound very good does it?!
They have been making redundancies at my place so wondering if its that but a lady who does the same job as me hasn't had one, though she's been with the company much longer...
I've only been here a year so not entitiled to any redundancy money so do you think it is reviewing my job?
Just weird how says services my job offers-why would he put that??
I asked boss and he says will discuss at meeting, so dont know what to do.
My line manager doesn't knwo what it's about but said just write a list of everything do and what job invoves, as he's only been in post 4 months so maybe doesn't knwo ins and outs?
But can he suddenly just sack me if thats what it's about?
Any advice is appreciated

Have you done anything wrong that you are aware of? Your employer cannot give you any official warning whether it be verbal or written without you attending a disciplinary hearing. You must be given at least 24 hours written notice and you must be offered the chance to take in a colleague or union official with you. I would have thought that the letter you received, would have been clearer though and given the reasons as to why they want to see you.
Disciplinary hearings can result in dismissal, but normally this is only when you have committed gross misconduct in which case they are entitled to sack you without notice pay. I am certain that you would be aware if you have or have not committed gross misconduct, so I am guessing it is for something less serious, like perhaps a falling off in the quality of your work? If you are a union member, I would seek further advice from them. If your company is unwilling to discuss this any further with you before the hearing, I would contact an advisory service for further advice as you need to ensure that you are aware of all your rights before attending the hearing. Best of luck, I hope this has not worried you too much.
Let us know how you get on.

It certainly sounds as if you are being 'ambushed' about somethng, and your hunch about redundancy may be correct. You really should take a union rep into this meeting with you. It is also a typical tactic to give this kind of letter out at the start of a weekend, to wind you up. Sounds like you might be better off elsewhere in any case, but chin up and get some help and advice in from your union. If you aren't in a union, join one straight away.
Ask in writing what the status of the meeting is and ask for a written reply. If it is a disciplinary there should have been prior notification what you were being disciplined for, an investigation, report etc. I thought it may just be a probation meeting but you wouldn't need your union rep there for that. If you don't have a years service they may be letting you go.
Hi
Just to let you know I had the meeting with my boss.
it was actually to redeploy me to another team.
No longer needed in current post.
Literally said if turn down then be made redundant in April.
but good news is I have actually been offered another job anyway so told him that so am handing in my notice anyway!
