how to stop windows popping up

Hi can anyone help me with this problem
When I open up my internet broser and go onto google and when I go to a web page though google my computer opens a new window for the web page instead of using the same one. Its really annoying

What can I do to stop this happening, my computer runs on XP

Do you mean that it opens a new window or a new tab?

In internet explorer, go to:
Tools --> Internet Options --> advanced.

One of the options, says "Reuse windows for launching shorthcuts", make sure that is ticked. That might do the job.

Thanks for the advice squarebear I just did what you said but the box was already ticked.

If you go into Google's preferences (middle option just to the right of where you enter your search text), you will see an option that says "open search results in a new browser window".

Untick the box and click "Save Preferences". Problem sorted!
