does anybody out there know a simple and easy way to soundproof a wall?

I Don't know what happened there, I must have pressed a wrong button, I saw empty egg boxes being used as sound-proofing on an old episode of Grange Hill when I was a kid, it just stuck in my mind. Might look a bit ugly though. I don't know if you meant an interior or exterior wall.

Empty egg boxes are really ggod to keep sound in, they have been used in recording studios, also just insulating the wall will help.
