Transfer of Cine Film to Video

I have lots of old super 8 cine film of family gatherings etc and the grandchildren are telling me it is possible to have them transferred to video or even DVD. Is this a simple and safe procedure and what would the approximate cost be for a reel ? Any advice would be much appreciated.

If you have access to a projector and video camera you can do it yourself. Sit the camera and projector side by side (important to avoid picture distortion), once everything is lined up. press record on the camera and start the film rolling. The sound of the projector will be evident on the video, so just mute the TV on playback. It's quite simple and the projected picture only needs to be about 18" wide.

A bit of a warning - you only get what you pay for. The cheap places will do what mortartube describes. The best will do a much better conversion, more 'direct' than just filming it.

I had some done at a cheap place, and they were rubbish - all bright in the middle with the edges dark. I had them redone, and paid more. It was worth it as like yours, mine were very old family films, almost falling to bits now.

So, my recommended company would be this lot. Reasonable prices, high quality and very rapid turnaround.

I wouldn't bother with videos now, they're nearly obsolete, and prone to damage and wear.
