Urinary tract infection, cystitis?
15 Answers
Hi, i have had the feeling that i need to urinate constantly for about 6 weeks now. It is really getting me down now because i work and all i can concentrate on is the urge i have to wee (even tho, when i do go to the toilet only a drip comes out) I have had 2 lots of antibiotics from the doctor who prescribed them without doing a dip test but the antibiotics have not worked. I also bought over the counter sachets for cystitis and they haven't worked either. Does anyone know if it could be symptoms for something else? Thanks.

Could be prostate related though could be an infection or inflammation (like prostatitis) rather than anything serious but best to get it checked to be on the safe side and good to check regularly in any case.
Which antibiotics did they give you? Could still be cystitis but they've not been able to shift it yet.
Maybe some kind of inflammation or irritation.
Could be something like Interstitial Cystititis.
Best get back and checked out again.
Have you had any tests for diabetes or kidney problems?

I am female & definately not pregnant, i have no std's either because i have been tested. I have looked up Interstitial Cystititis and it does sound like it could be that, i havent been tested for diabetes or kidney probs, i will book another ap with the doctor and hopefully things will get sorted soon.
Cystitis can be quite intractible. Cranberry juice is supposed to ease things, but in any case you need to keep your fluid intake up. They used to prescribe a disgusting tasting fluid - mist.pot.cit. - but I should imagine they have some newer products nowadays. Keep your urine as alkaline as you can with things like lemon/orange barley water. I am sure if your doctor has already prescribed two sets of antibiotics he must have a pretty good idea of the problem. Did he take a sample to send to the lab? It is always wise to go back if the treatment prescribed isn't working. I hope you feel better soon.
Well, certainly sound like cystiits, but 6 weeks is a long time fo it to contiue. Could be that the oganisms causing the infection are not sensitive to you antibiotcs and hence a urine sample for culture and sensitivity will be needed. I f all fails, you will need to see a Urologist for further investigation.
PS do you get pain with passing water and have you had any difficult births?

Thanks for all your answers, i will have to get the doc to take a urine sample this time and look into this further. I forgot to say i have been drinking cranberry juice and i have changed soaps to ph balanced and ones with no perfume just incase it was that but that never made any change either. Evedawn i will also ask him about endometriosis because it does feel as if something is pressing on my bladder and i do have heavy periods.
