Hi - I've got a fairly elderly laptop which I used to take around with me (I used to house-sit for people) which I had a 3G/GPRS card I used with it . Having stopped doing that job I cancelled the contract for the card. Now I'm going to be away for a week in Feb and want to take my laptop with me. I've been looking at pay as you go broadband, and both 3 and O2 do a no contract deal. My question is would either of these two wireless dongles work anywhere (provided decent reception) or do they have to be near hotspots? Also the "3" dongle is �48.93 and the "O2" is �29.35 - why the price difference?

These dongles are nothing to do with wifi hotspots and everything to do with 'coverage'.

It didn't work for me in Devon last year, and nor for my friends in Cornwall last week.

You need to visit the websites and check the coverage map. When they work they are very good - faster than dial up, not as fast as home broadband.

Companies can charge what they like for their products - that is the only reason for the price difference

Thanks Ethel - my mobile phone doesn't work in lots of places in Devon, but fortunately I'm going to be staying near Guildford which hopefully has better reception.
