Superdrug Mole Clinic

I saw this morning that the Oxford Street branch of superdrug have a mole clinic where you can be screened for cancerous moles. I would be interested in having this done. They do this at the holborn store as well. At �45 a go though, its quite expensive - just wondered if anyone else had used this service and what they thought of it and what the procedure is?

Is this where they 'map' your moles? I've got hundreds of the things so checking regularly for changes in shape and colour is a bit difficult-and that's just the ones I can see!!

Morning Alixw!

I accompanied my boyfriend to the actual Mole Clinic in London earlier this year. I think it was about �90 for a full body check and I wasn't majorly impressed. The literally just look at each mole and say whether to keep an eye on it or not. He was given a report at the end though.

�45, I don't think, is too bad a price. Maybe give them a call and find out whether they can send you some information on what their proecdure might be.

teag1rl, I think they actually tell you whether or not the moles are/could be cancerous. That' swhy i was quite interested in it.

But if what you are saying whiskeysheri is true, not sure if it's really worth it? Just to be told to keep en eye on something! I will talk to them to see if they can tell me more, but thanks for your help!!!

There was a poster on the wall of all the different types of moles (things like general moles, potentially dangerous ones and melanomas), Alixw, and I think the lady we saw was mainly working from that. My boyfriend has said he wouldn't bother going again, but simply go to his GP if there was a particular mole he was worried about.

Not at all what we were expecting, but perhaps Superdrug has a different procedure, like I said. Let me know how you get on :o)

A friend of mine went last year and they told her to have a mole removed and it was cancer. She syas she couldve died if she she hadnt gone. She thinks the money was a small price to pay.

Read the literature which is widely available. If you have concerns, then go to your G.P. Mine booked me in for the next week and removed it painlessly on the N.H.S. I wouldn't waste your money, you pay national insurance after all

I had a mole check in superdrug a few weeks a go. i went to my gp first as i have lots of moles but he refused to look at them all - just asking which ones worried me. i then asked a friend who is a GP to have a look but she said she didnt have enough dermatology training - she can recognise a dodgy mole which she usually refers to a NHS dermatologist but that this usually takes a few months so i opted for superdrug. price was pretty good as they had a half price offer on (usually �95 for a whole body check). The nurse seemed to know ehat she was talking about - (she had degree/diploma certificates on the wall - and when she saw me reading them she said she gets asked alot if she is a "real" nurse!) She checked all my moles with a special magnifier and then came back to a couple that were "different" with a large camera and lens. the one she was most interested in was something i wouldnt even have noticed - a smal pale spot in my eyebrow. she took a photo of it and assured me she would get it checked by the dermatologist within 48 hrs. All my other moles were fine but the next day she called me with some bad news - the "spot" was suspicious for cancer (but that you can only get an exact diagnosis by cutting it out). She sent me out soem reports with pictures etc which i took along to my GP who sent me to dermatologist for removal of the mole two weeks later. The hospital did a biopsy and it turned out to be a squamos cell cancer. I dread to think what would happen if i hadnt gone at all as no one had picked it up so far and it was right on my face! The nurse was nice and explained things well and it was great to get seen without endless waiting lists. I would encourage anyone with dodgy mole/who has never had them checked to go fr a mole screen. I for one am glad i saw the poster whilst shopping for shampoo!!
