engine trouble
My H reg Fiesta ran out of oil my fault for not putting the oil cap on tight enough.Anyway the man from the RAC put some in and we were able to get home just about.I filled the oil up at home but now the engine is making a terrible knocking sound. Is there any chance it could be saved my poor old Fiesta?

this isnt an overhead cam engine, it will probably be the old pushrod engine therefore the camshaft is not located at the top of the engine, the rocker shaft is, im presuming it is he old 1.1 hcs engine???

cazz the overhead valve engines are still around today, they are fitted in ford kaa's,
If the engine has NO oil the big end shells will go first, and the likelihood is that it is the 1.1hcs OVERHEAD VALVE engine in which case the camshaft is located in the block not the cylinder head. If your theory was correct the rocker shaft would seize up which obviously hasnt happened as its still running. IF it is a 1.4 CVH engine your theory may be correct but not on a 1.1 HCS engine. Given the fact that this is a 90/91 H plate then the likelihod is its the more popular 1.1 engine.

the rocker shaft shells or the cam shaft shells are more likely to go before the big end shells

the rockers can wear without seizing

possibly the small end shells could go but definately more likely than the big end shells as they are on the crankshaft
