Windows xp does not recognise Usb Flash Drive
5 Answers
Hi All. I have got a Maxell 8 gb flash drive, when plugged into Usb port ,it reads Usb device not recognised.
I have been on the Maxell web site looking for any downloads, there is, but only for Windows 98.
I have the same problem with an ACER MP330.
Any suggestions please (Thanks)

What O/System are you using? As its new it will probably be Vista home premium, only an assumption. If you have done everything you have said and as you can get mem sticks for a few quid it might be worth buying a different make of stick and seeing how you get on, I can't think of anything else. There could be a number of issues. First thing is do other USB devices work in the same port that you have been plugging the stick into, other than your ACER MP330, if so then the device is goosed. If they dont try another usb port. If that doesnt work you may need to go into the bios to check the settings for pug and play devices in the usb section of your bios. Is it a laptop or a desktop? Also try the device on another pc/laptop and see if it will work. Also is this pc your pc? or is it a work pc as these are sometimes prohibited from using memory sticks.
Hi Eastern.
I have tried all 3 Usb ports still the same.
The bluetooth dongle works ok in the usb port.
The pc is a laptop& belongs to me.
I have tried the stick in another pc and works ok.
The Acer Mp3 player,i installed the disc that came with the player, but came up, no need to install this disc.
Looks like i will have to check the bios settings, anyway thanks for your answer.

Dont know if it will work but its worth a shot.
