What is the only Fruit or Vegetable that is only sold fresh, not tinned, Frozen or Processed?

There must be some but most are available as the fruit / /veg themselves either tinned or frozen or processed in some way as in fruit juices, smoothies etc.

Mind you, I did see a tin of tinned sprouts a few weeks ago, and wanted to buy them for someone as a joke - but I have now forgotten where I saw them. I can't think of anything more disgusting, don't get me wrong, I love fresh sprouts, but tinned ?!!!!

I remember reading some years ago about the history of canning and freezing, and lettuce proved impossible then. I don't suppose things have changed that much as the basic principles of both forms of preservation haven't changed.

processed......what do you mean by that?  Lettuce is "processed" (ie washed and separated into leaves)before it is slung into these ever so convenient bags of salad that shops sell.   

I didn't think using the fruit/veg as an ingredient for something else was what the question meant.  After all, lettuce is sold as a part of a sandwich filling which would be comparable to guacamole (which after all, contains many ingredients other than avocado).

Umm, I don't know the answer but I bought some canned mushrooms the other week to see what they looked like.  And they looked disgusting.  All white and smooth and yukky.  I have also bought canned strawberries in the past, that are squashy, and squooshy and mushy.

Sorry, Dom Tuk, you can get sun-dried aubergines - I have a tub lying around in my kitchen. Also, "frozen aubergines" gave me 13 hits in Google.

And Gilli, I would certainly call the shredded iceberg lettuce you get "processed". Quite apart from the freeze-dried lettuce they use for snail food...

I'd like your definition of processed clarified, Tony Monero.
Processed could mean reconstituted - like the fruit juices - but I'd need convincing that drying was "processing" in the same way.
I'd go with cucumber or lettuce. (Are these both high water content?)

Very good question Tony. sorry to see that aubergines are processed. However i can think of a few asian vegetables that i have not seen in the Uk or Europe. Some gourds like bitter gourd or the fruit custard apple. Still not seen those in tins or dried.
