Two books that have made me cry with laughter recently are The Boys Are Back in Town by Simon Carr, and the late John Diamond's C: Because Cowards Get Cancer Too. You wouldn't think a book about cancer would be funy but in places it is hilarious. Oh and I've just remembered Sap Rising by AA Gill. Another one that nearly cracked a rib.
Try something by Tom Sharpe, especially the early stuff like 'Riotous Assembly' or 'Indecent Exposure'.
Never listen to anyone who tells you that Catch-22 is funny because it isn't. Try one of those TV spin-off books like Alan B'Stard's diaries etc.
I'd recommend pretty much anything by P G Wodehouse
Humour is matter of taste, but I can definately recommend SUNSTROKE by Marc Blake, it had me rolling around with laughter! The author teaches comic writing at some University I believe, and use to be a stand up comic. It is set in Spain real Fuerengola (or how ever you spell it!) there are many characters, an Ex-Pat Drug Baron his thick nephew, two warring hashish gangs, very farcical!
