There are no trains to Tossa de Mar.
Are you flying into the 'real' Barcelona Airport (El Prat) or into one of Ryanair's two 'fake' ones (Girona or Reus)?
From Girona (which is the logical airport to fly to, since it's the nearest to Tossa de Mar), there's a bus twice per day:
http://www.sarfa.es/paginas/aeroport_SUD.html
It's about 40km (25 miles) from Girona Airport to Tossa de Mar, so a taxi shouldn't cost too much.
The 'real' Barcelona Airport is about 100km (over 60 miles) from Tossa de Mar, so a taxi is bound to be expensive. (Reus is over twice that distance from Tossa de Mar, so I hope that's not where you're flying to!).
From Barcelona Airport, take a RENFE train for 5 stops, to Arc de Triomf station. (They run every 30 minutes. The journey time is about 30 minutes). Look for the signs to the Npols Street exit (probably labelled 'C/Npols'). That brings you out by the bus station ('Estaci d'Autobusos Barcelona-Nord'). Buses leave from there at 0800, 1000, 1200, 1330, 1500, 1800 and 2030 daily. The journey time to Tossa de Mar is 1 hour 20 minutes.

Did this 3 years ago and found it easy, got on the train at Barcelona Airport to Barcelona Sants ( main central station ) then stayed on the same platform and caught the train to Tossa, I'm sure I only paid about 8 euro.
I hope someone will give you the link to the time table from the airport, it's available in English.

Jrtv has certainly managed to confuse me. I wrote that there are no trains to Tossa de Mar but he seems to have used one!
Every station in Spain is listed here:
http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/index.jsp?ID=s&pa ge=hjhir110.jsp&image2.x=23&image2.y=1
Tossa de Mar does not appear in that list.
Additionally, the Thomas Cook Rail Map of Europe shows no rail service to Tossa de Mar. The three Barcelona guidebooks, on my bookshelf, all have rail maps of the area. None show a service to Tossa de Mar.
I've Googled ''"tossa de mar" train' and ''"tossa de mar" rail', without finding any references to a rail service. Googling '"tossa de mar" barcelona transport' brings up loads of references to the bus service I've referred to, but not a single hint of a train.
My post was largely based upon the website of a conference centre in Tossa de Mar, giving visitors directions from Barcelona Airport. (I also consulted some maps, to provide additional detail). The site made no reference to a train service to Tossa de Mar (and it seems doubtful that they'd have directed conference delegates to a slow bus service if there's a train service available).
I can only assume that Jrtv caught a ghost train to Tossa de Mar ;-)

Thanks so much - I didn't make the original booking so sorry for confusion.
Will pass this on to my friend who did. She said it was about 90 each which we thought was expensive so no idea what she's done.
Do think she said it would be about 1 hour and 30 mins. But she did originally say transfers were included
Thanks again all

I remember how we did it now, we caught the airport train to Barcelona Sants main station, then from the same platform we caught the Macanet train which went down the coast past Santa Susana, Malgrat and got off at Blanes, we then caught the bus outside the station ( there's only one ) that took us into Blanes centre from where we caught the bus to Tossa de Mar, stopping at Loret de Mar on the way, its a bit of a hair raiser on the bus around a lot of bends, but all in all a lot of fun.
