But all I see here is a lot of heat and very little light, I'd back them if they had a proposal.
They have'nt.
These workers are EU workers, no permits nothing free trade and transfers, unless you suggest we leave the EU (which is a different question) it seems to me the government could ask for an apprenticeship scheme to be put into the contract and this might defer the problem.
The contract was put out to tender and that firm won.

Rather than all this hot air and bluster, people should be asking why a British firm failed to win this contract.
and wild cat strikes are going to make the British workforce even less attractive to employers.
Very dim, the lot of the strikers. If they lies their jobs they have no one but themselves to blame (but like all dimwits, they will blame foreign workers).

Why only know are they protesting? The Eastern Europeans have been coming over and stealing our jobs for the last couple of years!....I know a lot of AB posters say they are doing jobs the British don`t want but us British are looking for jobs but they are all taken by the imigrants, FACT.
They are doing the jobs because they work for less wages and bosses want cheap labour,FACT.
Us British should have been protesting about the influx of foreign workers from day 1.

This is a complete nonsense.
Apart from anything else, Total is a French company, operating in a foreign country (the UK) and employing a contractor that is based in a third (Italy). They are perfectly entitled to employ whichever contractor they choose.
Do you think that BP only employs Canadians in its operations there? No of course it doesn't. It uses sub-contactors who are based here, the USA and all over the world.

Just imagine A company in the oil business in Alaska employs a contractor who uses labour from Texas. How many protests and sympathy strikes would that engender?
We are in the EU. The position is the same as in that example . Workers from one state may work in another. End of story. If you don't like it, get us out of the EU, but in the meantime face the reality.
