I guess i'm selfish and want a quiet life. What my point is, is that since a few months ago i suceeeded in getting him out of my bed and into his cot, the way i get him to sleep is by putting on his pj's, giving him a 9oz bottle of milk, and like you do with your little girl, holding him to get to sleep, more recently though i have tried taking him to my room (where the cot is and i have the hallway light on), laying him down and laying down beside him and pretending i am going to sleep too! Within 10 minutes he's asleep!!! Then i carefully pick him up and place him in the cot, if he does stir, i sush him/offer more milk... And that's it! It has worked for me, i think moreso because the room is dark so he knows there's nothing exciting happening and succumbs to sleep!
This might not work for you but you have nothing to lose by trying. Good luck! x
