Help, need a theme for 40th tea party?

Hi. My 40th is coming up on a thursday and i want an idea for a theme for a tea party/birthday bash to be held at my house. My kids will be there too ages 6,10 and 18 and should imagine people will be popping in and out inbetween 6-10 pm. Im really stuck on what to do. Any ideas would be most appreciated. Thankyou

As you have called it a tea party, how about Alice in Wonderland theme? Jam tarts, cakes decorated as playeing cards, indoor croquet game on the carpet (but you can get some plastic flamingoes if you search the net!) The kids could dress in character too. . . . . . other than this, you could look for something topical from the year of your birth and reflect this in your theme??

You could lay out a themes buffet and perhaps made a giant trifle, or put a huge salad in one of these:
