How does the mechanical switching on / 0ff work. Why if it is dismantled and reassembled does it not function. (Loss of magnetism) Can it be restored?

The mechanical switching is turning the magnets over to present a lower magnetic link, and when reassembling them it is essential that they are correctly presented not easy to do, a bit late now but marking the attitude of the magnets at the time of dismantling is the best option.I suggest you contact a manufacturer for help or failing that an instrument mechanic.
