does anyone know what happens if you are an o2 customer originally with Singlepoint? (now Vodafone). Will Vodafone try to convert you to their network when your contract is due for renewal/upgrade? And if so, what sort of deals will they offer you?

I was on O2 with a company called Cellular Operations who were also bought out by Vodaphone. My contract at the time allowed 1000 Offpeak mins. per month at 9.99 plus 2 billing which was a bargain then and allowed for 12-monthly phone upgrades at a reasonable price. Vodaphone honoured the contract as such but put such a high premium on a phone upgrade that it was cheaper to take out a new contract as 11.99 pm did not appear so attractive for the rental only.

yeah, this is what I thought may happen.  I do not particularly want to go over to Vodafone, but I have also heard some bad things about being on direct contract with o2.  Well it's a way off yet, but it will be interesting to see what they offer me. Thanks for that!

I have just tried to upgrade my daughter's phone through Vodaphone as she was originally on Singlepoint and they wanted 170 for a Motorola V3. When I said that this was a joke they immediately reduced this to 80. I said this was still too much and have requested a "pac" number and will go direct to O2 who only want 19.99 for the phone.

While I was on I enquired about upgrading my own phone which I have only had for 11 months and was immediately offered a free upgrade on a range of phones and also a 5 reduction in line rental for the same free minutes. (The added bonus is that non of my money will go to ManU)

thank you Phil. Thinking about that point, I hate alex ferguson and think that is a good enough reason to go elsewhere when the time comes. I think if you tell them you are not willing to pay for an upgrade they end up practically giving things away rather than lose the customer. Incidentally, have they tried to charge you for the PAC number?
