Fourth estate
Question Author
Thanks, but why?
Sorry, Had to go before I could explain.

Fourth Estate = Press, journalism etc.
Most distant - Furthest, with the 'opening' of one in i.e the 'o'
Finally 'ate' is a piece of the word 'water'
o(ne) in furthest + (w) ate (r).

The press (newspapers) is known as the 4th estate. I think 1,2 & 3 are House of Lords, H of Commons, & the Church.
Sorry! I forgot to say .....

1a cackle. The sound a fowl makes, and expression 'cut the cackle' = stop wittering on & get to the point!

& Sorry Christiana! You weren't there when I started typing!
