Typhoid and Cholera

What's the difference between typhoid and Cholera?
I have been corresonding with a lady in Madagascar and her toddler son has typhoid sickness. She says the doctor has given them antibiotics, when I asked if they had teken him to the hospital, she said the hospital didn't have any drugs left to treat him. Is he likely to get through this illness do you think?

Typhoid and cholera are caused by different bacteria

Typhoid is fatal in about 10% of untreated patients but only in about 1% of those who've received prompt treatment with antibiotics.

I don't want to sound hideously pessimistic, but if she starts asking for money for treatment, I'd steer well clear.

thanks the websites are really informative. I've been corresponding for 6 months and she has never asked for anything, in fact she told me not to send a parcel because they quite often get stolen, so I'm certain shes not scamming me.
