Copying home movies to DVD

Is it possible to copy VHS and 8mm film to DVD? If it's relevant, my 8mm video recorder no longer works and it's many years since I has a VHS recorder.

Easiest way is to get a DVD Recorder/VCR combo, which will take care of the VHS. You should also be able to attach an 8mm player (ebay?) and record direct to DVD.

If you want to be really flash, use re-recordable DVDs and edit the recorded footage on a PC, create a DVD with a menu system and save that to a record once DVD.

Warning! This will all take a lot of time - at minimum the length of playing the film to be copied (+ a bit for setup) and longer if you want to create something a bit more special on a PC.

Thanks LeMarchand. I'll give it a go. None of the (VHS) tapes are that long, just bits and pieces of family scenes. A job for a rainy Sunday perhaps!

There are several posts on here to tell you how to copy VHS to dvd but you will need some method of playing them,your 8mm film needs a projector to play it onto a screen and then a camera to record it onto, best bet is to get it done by a specialist firm who have the equipment.
