Photoshop Question

I've got a problem in Photoshop.

If I create, let's say, a new A4 document, and I then I try to drag a colour image onto it (thus creating a new layer) a problem occurs.

This is the problem; when I click and drag my colour image onto the new document, it converts it from colour to B&W. It's only just started doing this, and I don't like it!

My question is, what must I do in order to stop Photoshop converting this new layer to B&W?

Is your new, A4 file colour mode set up as 'greyscale' rather than CMYK or RGB?

Looking at your attachment up there ^ the left hand file 'is' set up as greyscale, which means any image you copy in to it will become greyscale...

I'm not sure, how do I check?

Photoshop > file > new > change the colour mode to whatever you want the file to be: RGB, CMYK etc...

Ah, what do you suggest I change it to (CMYK or RGB)?

What's the normal (bog standard) colour?

Depends if you want to print from the original file (CMYK) or just view on screen (RGB)...

I've changed it back to RGB.

One more question, if want to print any images off, and they're in RGB, will they print off ok?

From your printer, yes... use CMYK for commercial (litho) printing...
