The answer is when its in a B&Q Sale ! Firstly they add on a 420 surcharge and secondly the offer only covers a part of the installation, the plumbing. Anything else such as tiling and bonding, adds a further 1200 odd to the bill. May I thank all those subscribers who gave me their advice and told me of their similar experiences.

Most of these half price sales are a scam anyway. The time has come for the Trading Standards/Consumer Protection Groups etc. to step in and investigate what is going off.
wassup AOG?
have the folks in News sent you to Coventry?
and what pees me off is how things are constantly new or improved. Just how many times can something supposedly be improved?
modeller, I've had exactly the same experience. B&Q quoted me 4300 to do my bathroom last year. this year with 50% of the bathroom goods and 50% of installation it came to 5300.

I then found out that they artificially bumped up their prices pre-Christmas to make this "offer".

apparently they were selling a toilet for 50. pre-Christmas it was put up to 120, so now you can get it half price, 60!

trading standards and the office of fair trading aren't interested. they can basically charge what they like, so long as the goods/service actually were the pre-sale prices they state.
i love B&Q they are brilliant
sara i have revised my quote for your bathromm 4299.99
cheers nk! B&Q's final offer was 5k.

actually their original quote was 3800. I exaggerated!

okay, I couldn't remember, and guessed :o)
