Do hamsters bite their fingernails?
3 Answers
I mean how else do they keep them nice and short. Also what happens if they get a bit too excited. would they gnaw there foot off by mistake? I saw a club footed hamster once and after years of deliberating and pondering this is the only probable cause I can come up with.

He sits and chews them until they are really rough so we take him to the vets where he cries all the while they are being cut but is so happy afterwards.

I used to rely on walks to keep Max's nails short but Mrs P now has a manucurist come in every week to trim and polish his nails, I have however managed to draw the line at varnishing them (pink nails do not go well with a GSD) I have also found that feedng him every day discourages him from eating parts of himself no matter how excited he gets
