I come in a box, I am heavy, not motorized and cannot be played. I make noise. I dont store information.
I break if I'm dropped. Not animal, mineral or vegetable.
I am black sometimes. I am larger than a bread box.

A loudspeaker? It doesn't have a motor as such, you don't play the speaker but you do play the cd, and mine is quite big! Oh it's a long shot....

This has me stumped - its the "not animal mineral or vegetable" that's the tricky bit. "space" doesn't make noise, or break..."thoughts" don't come in a box, or break, or make noise...."air" is mineral, and doesn't break and isn't heavy...
