Why do my light bulbs keep blowing?

I have recently bought some new light fittings. They were not cheap but I think I will need to take out another mortgage to pay for the number of bulbs we are getting through. One bulb went just 2 days after the light was fitted and it has just continued like this. Can anybody advise why this may be happening and what I could do about it?

Are the bulbs themselves cheapo ones?

No I don't think so. The lighting shop gave them to us when we bought the lights and has since given us quite a few more. They say they have not had this problem before.

Sounds more like that the fittings are dodgy - can you get an electrician to check them out ? Bulbs these days should not be *blowing* as you describe unless there is a problem with the apparatus itself.

I have the same problem. mine take G9 bulbs (very expensive) but sometimes you can wiggle them in sockets and they come on again. I'm sick of them and plan to change the whole lights.. 2 in the living room and 1 in the kitchen! an electrician checked them and said they were fine :o(

Wonder if the circuit's just being over-loaded?

Overloading a ciruit will only result in a fuse blowing or MCBs trippimg, never Lamps blowing
(Bulbs are planted in the Garden)
Occasionally Transient overvloltage surges can be root of the problem but very difficult to remedy
Get a local Soark to take some readings

reddevil1, I had all my G9 bulbs disconnected as they were too expensive to run. I had 9 in the kitchen area alone. The electrician used one of live cables to fit me a ceiling light where I now use an energy saving bulb of 18w. The rest of the bulbs were in the lounge, and the two bedrooms, even they had to bite the dust and ordinary fittings were installed.

This is very interesting and I would love an answer!!! Just had the kitchen done with 8 halogen downlights in the ceiling and 6 g9 bulbs under the wall cabinets! Prob I keep getting is that bulbs keep blowing in either the under cabinet lights, the passage chandalier (9 candle bulbs), of the bathroom downlights!!! these are on different rings so cannot work it out!!
could I have too many bulbs in the house? we have a chandalier typoe fitting in the lounge that has 30 bulbs on it but these never blow!
