Lyrics have Misunderstood on a song?

it was the way it was first written I think noknow. one of the most "misunderstood" songs I think was

every breath you take, by the police, some thought it was a love song, but it was about stalking somebody.

When I first heard this song I thought the first line was "She tried to pee on me, off the pavement"

Huh???

Actual line is "She tried to peel me off the pavement"
