why does it not bleed

i have been watching channel 5's cosmetic surgery live recently and i have noticed that when the surgeon cuts the patient with a scalpel the patient does not bleed too much, and when i cut my finger for example i feel like ive lost 10 pints of blood.   why doesnt the patient bleed????

Because of the 'awareness' theory.

I once saw a woman at work put a rivet through her finger accidentally but it happened so quickly that she didn't realise.

It was only when someone pointed it out to her that it began to spurt blood. 

yeah but also the surgeon injected neoprene (or whatever) to reduce bleeding.
They use a cauterising instrument...they burn the blood vessels shut...that's why u see a lil smoke when they cut.
They also use adrenaline...the hormone...causes blood vessels to contract...and allow less blood to flow through.
