typing problems with word/excel using vista home premium

Does anybody know why, when I am typing using Microsoft office(word/excel and e-mails) with Vista Home premium the cursor suddenly jumps to random points on the document. I can find no pattern to this but its very annoying. Anybody know the answer?

If you are using a laptop, make sure that while you are typing your thumbs aren't accidentally brushing the trackpad. This causes exactly your type of problem.

wireless ... charge/change batteries

less likely
laser - multi coloured mats can confuse the beam
there is generally an option in mouse properties to hide cursor when typing

finally - do you type in any other apps (you seem to have most covered)? - if so howzat?

if not ... try notepad/wordpad ... even internet explorer and let us know
