There is very bright star in the sky this evening. I noticed it as I was walking home from work. I think its facing south west.

Can anyone else see it or am I seeing things?!

i have just phoned my friend about this

It's Venus. Isn't she beautiful?

She's been shining brightly like that for a few weeks. x
several threads have debated this one, alot of people say Venus, which of course it could be, but venus twinkles green, Jupiter is currently around and we can see it with the naked eye, and jupiter is very very bright but doesn't twinkle
Is it a star or is it the space station ??
my friend thinks it is jupiter

Hi tigger - I've just pulled up the roller blind & can also see it.

The sky is really clear & the star is certainly very bright!

South Bedfordshire.
i have been saying it was Jupiter on here for several weeks but like i said, alot say Venus, but the one you mean is so bright with no hint of green

Wow so it could be Jupiter! Excellent.

I thought it was a bit too bright for Ursa Major and its not twinkling either like stars normally do. At first I thought it was a plane! Lol

Sorry Dot I haven't seen the other threads.
It's Venus
Question Author
Thanks Lakitu. Very beautiful isn't it?
yes - it's Venus and she is beautiful!
Question Author
""She" is very beautiful" I should say.
Yes, I first noticed it a few weeks back....maybe around Christmas....I actually stopped to see if it was plane. I got back and immediately did a bit of investigation to find out what it was.

It makes me smile when I see it on a cloudless night :o)
It's difficult to know which it is you have seen, because both are visible at the moment:

After the sun and the moon, it is the third brightest in our sky at the moment. Lovely :o)
Yes it is Venus and she looks just amazing this time of year.
it could be mercury, venus or jupiter.
