how can it happen

I have been on the pill for several years now. In november I had a miscarriage and found out last week that I am pregnant, how can it happen when im on the pill and taking them correctly.

Are you Rhesus A Negative blood type?  If so this can reduce the effectivness of the normal pill.  Also bear in mind that the pill is not 100% effective

Hi emdeja, perhaps there's been a problem with the absorption of the pill, have you had a stomach upset or been vomiting?    I know this won't help you now you're having a baby but if you decide to go back on some form of contraception then a chat with your practice nurse would hopefully find something more suitable for you, the injection perhaps.  Good luck sweetheart!!

Or if you've been taking certain tablets, like anti biotics, st johns wort etc, this can affect it

It is unusual but it is not unique. I have a friend who has five children although she and her husband had planned to have three.  She once told me (facetiously) she could not understand how she seemed to be always pregnant while she was on the pill.
