I bought some lovely cod and made some batter and tried to do proper chippy fish. When I put it in the deep fat fryer the fish sunk to the bottom and stuck hard to the bottom of the frying basket. It was ruined. Can anyone help? Why did this happen?

Hi holly,
was the oil hot enough? Enough depth to a deep fat fryer for the fish to fry?
Question Author
It said 190 for the oil which is what i put it on. i thought the fish / batter might of been too heavy but i dont know what else i coul of done.
It may be as you said, the batter was too heavy. Try thinning it out next time.
Try cooking it without using a basket. Makes everything a lot easier. use metal slotted spoon or spider to remove from the hot oil
it sounds like your oil wasn't hot enough.

also how deep is your fat fryer?
I know it's difficult to check 190C but is it possible that the thermostat setting is wrong on your fryer. I had a cheap one some time ago that was 20C below what it was set at.
