We used to have this as a pud in primary school mumble mumble years ago.  They were sort of oaty biscuit with a really lovely, light texture.  Found myself dreaming about them yesterday and wonder if anyone else remembers them or has a recipe?

Yes! I love these! I buy them from the local garden centre in the farm shop but i cant remember the name of who makes them! I can never stop at one, they are so lush!

Oh guys you are in for a treat!!  I have a recipe for Melting Moments, which I hope is the same as the one you are looking for.  I went to a convent boarding school and we didn't get anything like this for pudding..I digress though....will dig it out tomorrow for you both - it's a bit late now and the house alarm's on and ...well, you get the picture!!  Will post recipe tomorrow!

Happy Baking/Eating!!

Ok you ready for this??!!

2 1/2 oz SR flour, 1 oz castor sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla essence, 2 oz butter and a little dessicated coconut.

Turn oven on to 180 C/Gas 4.

Cream the sugar, butter and essence and then stir int he flour and mix well.  With wet hands roll into balls and then roll in the coconut.  Place on a baking sheet and flatten slightly.  Bake until slightly brown. (about 15-20 mins)

Mmmm, want some NOW!!!

we used to geta blob of jam on top in the middle of the biscuit
I think we had a piece of glace cherry on ours at school which I used to pick off without fail.

Thanks for these reminiscences (sp) - and particular thanks for the recipe BondGirl - looking forward to a mouthful of heaven!
buchanan - I know I put down coconut to coat them with, but you can use oats if you prefer.  My recipe actually says that, but I was too busy trying to be the 1st one to answer!! ; )  Please let me know if it's the same as you had at school.  Thanks
They are still on the menu in my boy's primary school in Wiltshire!
WEll buchanan - how did you get on??  I think the secret is to keep watching them when they're cooking as you don't want them to go too brown.

Hiya BondGirl - I used the oats (more authentic to the original 70's experience) - and you were right - absolutely bl**dy yum.  The only slight difference was, that the cookies in my memory tasted a bit more ... artificial due I think to marge being used instead of butter.  Big thank you!!!
buchanan - Well done hon!!  Am SO pleased you made them!!  They are really nice with coconut too - try it, you may well be pleasantly suprised!  Bells, whistles and all - I really am chuffed that I helped - everyone always beats me to it!! ; )
