I have given up smoking and cannot stand my new sense of smell. Everything stinks and it's driving me mad. I can still smell stale cigarettes in the house. I washed the curtains and cushions etc but can still smell it. How long does it take before the smell of fags goes??

well done ummm, you will get used to your new sense of smell and isnt it hard to believe that cigarettes can smell so bad!!? you dont realise it when you are a smoker but its a shcok when you stop
have u put on weight ummmm ? thats what puts some of giving up .
Question Author
I put some weight on before I gave up due to laziness. None since I stopped. I haven't been eating more though.

The BF prefers me with the weight on as I was a bit under weight before.
I used to pass some really big women who smoked outside the school sleepy, I dont think its that good as a diet aid ;D
Question Author
If you have the willpower to give up I'd say you'd have the willpower to diet.
Yes ummmm I totally agree.

I actually heard once that smoking supresses your appetite?
Question Author
It does. Especially with coffee.
cazz maybe its a good thing that large lady does smoke she might be even bigger !
For many centuries, tobacco leaves have been prized for their stimulating effects, and for their aromatic qualities. They have even been traded as currency.

These centuries of appreciation are easily forgotten in the light of more recent adverse commentary.

Against this background, would it be very unusual for a person who has never smoked to find the aroma of burning tobacco not unpleasant?

Can't understand the question ? double negatives. BUT it would be unusual for someone who didn't smoke to find the aroma of burning tobacco pleasant.......except for the smell of a true Havana.
I see what you mean, Sqad ...

I was just trying to temper the level of appreciation from

... finding it "pleasant"

down to

... not finding it "unpleasant"

I have too. :-( I find that I keep buying make up now and treating myself as I think 'Ooooh I can have that mascara for 3 quid as I;d have spent nearly a fiver on fags
Oh joy, so I have that to look forward to as well as the cravings, and the wanting to eat anything I can get my hands on.

I gave up yesterday. So far it has been the worst 24 hours of my life.
