Immortal Soul?

Where did this doctrine originate?
If humans innately possess 'immortality' why would a 'resurrection' as is promised in the bible be necessary?

Humans are not said to innately possess immortality. Humans are mortal, but in the Christian religion the believe is that at death 'the mortal takes on immortality'. This expression is used in a funeral service for the deceased person.
