In the walk through [from hall to kitchen] we've got a run of worktop with two drawer freezers underneath.  I'd like to replace one with a chest freezer to store bulkier items.  The worktop is useful though, short of making the worktop a loose fit [so it can be lifted on & off], any other ideas? some sort of hinged system so it can be raised with the freezer lid?

How about putting your freezer on wheels so you can pull it out to open it. You could try the furniture sliders from Lakeland Plastics if space is tight.
